At the center of the enchanting rolling fields, lived a young shepherd. His being was mostly unadulterated, and unsophisticated. His primary duty was mainly to tend to his herd of rams.
Their low murmuring and the whispering of the gales through the lone tree on the check here hilltop were his main co-dwellers. Day in day, looking out for his charges inculcated in him a sense of tranquil contentment.
But, there were at times moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for company. In one such instance out of sheer tedium, the shepherd boy conceived a naughty plot.

One day he ran into the village screaming “Wolf! A wolf is attacking my sheep!” The scared villagers sprinted up the hills to help but saw nothing threatening.
The boy chuckled at the dilemma on their faces. This game continued for a couple of more days. Yet, one day, a real wolf actually attack the grazing sheep. The shepherd boy ran for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one responded.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect only few of his flock. Heartbroken, he returned to the village only to receive a reprimand on honesty and the repercussions of dishonesty.
The story of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the risks of crying wolf. Moreover, it highlights how trust once lost, is tough to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
